Minervois
A very well known wine region, the Minervois is an excellent area
to explore for it history of appellations, cathares and medieval
ruins.
The Haut-Minervois, separately named, consists of a variety
of villages situated in the Northern part of the Minervois
region in the Languedoc-Rousillon (including Herault and Aude
wine regions). These include:
- Rieux Minervois, location of the tourist site, the Rieux
Church.
- Caunes Minervois, well known for its abbey, ancient
city and wineries, all set on the backdrop of the Montagne
Noire,
and only minutes away from the well-known Gouffre Géant
de Cabrespine caves.
- La Redorte, home to a Canal du Midi port and production
of many local specialties.
- Minerve, the last stand of the Cathares sits atop a
cliff between two riverbeds, a mere 15 minute drive from
La Dolce
Vita - not to be missed!
Corbières
Another area named for its wine appellation & production,
the Corbières extends from the south side of the canal
all the way to the Spanish border. This region includes hilltop
ruins and many small, interesting villages to explore.
There are too many caves, tasting rooms, and châteaux
to name, but we can provide information for touring them once
you arrive - or contact us ahead of time for suggestions.
